IMPEACHMENT ANALYSIS: What will impeachment mean for Biden getting things done

"I hope there are enough members of the Republican caucus who will say we need to do the right thing for our constituents who are suffering in this pandemic situation that they will put partisanship aside and do the right thing. ... the GOP caucus is not as united in their defense of Trump. I think there are very few willing to defend Trump. There are more who are willing to turn a blind eye to his wrong doing. ... There is a diversity of reasons for why they are that way in their caucus. I think some just don't care. There are a few who want to hide from the political consequences with certain parts of their base for saying that Trump should be held accountable for his actions. There are some who are scared for their own safety or the safety of their families ... if [they] vote Trump be held accountable."

Impeachment Analysis: are minds being changed?

"This is something that should be above partisanship. Do I think there is going to be a vote to convict? Probably not. It seems hard to find the math to get to 67 votes ... the greater question is: 'are minds being changed at home?' Are the people who are seeing this in the news realizing the sham that has been in the White House that led to this insurrection. There were people there that day that were fooled into betraying their nation - fooled by a dangerous man in the White House."

Impeachment Analysis: Praise and be Wary

"We have this political calculus of Republicans running for President that is superseding their patriotism ... We have to put aside partisanship. We have to put aside people's Presidential ambitions and primary ambitions for campaigns down the road and instead look at the facts of the matter and worry about what is right for the country. We should all, as Americans, praise people like Mitt Romney and Liz Cheney who are willing to do that. But we should be wary of those like Ted Cruz and Lyndsey Graham whose least concern seems to be the well being of the nation."

IMPEACHMENT ANALYSIS: New Generation of Leaders

The impeachment managers have a slight advantage: "the truth is on their side."

"I hope we are seeing a next generation of leaders rise up through this. On the Democratic side [the impeachment managers]. On the Republican side, somebody like a Liz Cheney who is willing to stand up to Party and stand up to the politics of the moment to try to do what is right in a situation. ... Hopefully we will see a new generation of leaders on both sides of the aisle come out of this. One of the best cases for the country could be that we see people like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy retired in this process of leadership changeover."

IMPEACHMENT ANALYSIS: What about Biden's Agenda?

How will the impeachment proceedings impeach Biden's agenda?

"As far as Biden's agenda, when this [impeachment] winds down we will see Biden continue to stay focused on that agenda. We will see Congress come back into focus on that agenda. That will mean more work toward recovering from the pandemic, toward the economic consequences as well as the health consequences of the pandemic. And restoring America's place in the world that was damaged by four years of Trump and was extremely damaged by what happened on January 6."
